Dolce & Gabbana SS13: A tribute to Sicily

After delivering a show stopping SS12 collection filled with wonderful oversized fruits and vegetable motifs, I couldn't help but doubt Dolce & Gabbana's SS13 offerings at Milan Fashion Week before they had even hit the runway. Would Domenico and Stefano be able to top the energy they created last year? Would they be able to capture the same sense of excitement I felt when I watched red hot peppers and eggplants become iconic prints?

Of course, I needn't have worried; from the moment the first look appeared, it was clear that the SS13 collection would be just as kitch and beautifully crafted as the last! The design duo presented a Sicilian folklore inspired show, full of steamy holiday looks that were every inch as quirky and sassy as the last.

Like the worlds most fashionable market, models walked the runway in bright primary coloured sandals, hair held back by vintage printed scarves, swinging woven bucket bags. Dresses featuring vase shaped skirts and squared off shouldered depicted street theatre puppets, with red and gold theatre curtains acting like a silhouette frame. Oversized earrings also echoed the puppets, with miniature pompoms, tassels and ribbons, and a full skirt covered in knights looked dramatic yet fun.
