Holiday TV Guide: When your favorite holiday shows will be on the tube this year

Holiday programming has become the gift that keeps on giving . . . and giving . . . and giving. Like Santa's magical and ever-expanding bag of goodies, television's annual Christmas party seems to go on forever.

There are, of course, those annual yuletide visitors we joyfully welcome into our homes, greeting them as old friends. They're featured in those animated favorites and the classic Christmas movies we so cherish: Rudolph with his nose so bright, Charlie Brown with his needle-shedding Christmas tree, George Bailey and his guardian angel named Clarence, the Grinch and his wonderfully awful notion about how to steal Christmas.

There are so many channels offering so many choices, a comprehensive list of holiday programming no longer is possible. But here are some highlights for those looking to mark the calendar for the monthlong run to Christmas Day (the earliest airdates are listed for the cable movies, but most repeat several times):
