The ground assessment was attended by representatives from the National Insurance Company, Oriental Insurance and ICICI, apart from the National Informatics Centre that will operate a database of accident victims.
The project intends to come to the help of road accident victims within the first 48 hours, which is crucial for saving lives. 'Insurance companies will pick up the tab for the treatment. If the total treatment cost does not exceed Rs30,000, the victims or their relatives don't have to pay anything out of their pockets. If it exceeds the cap, they will have to pay the balance.
The cashless facility will extend to even those who have an insurance policy,'' the officer said. 'If the victim is being treated in a government hospital, the bill will be charged according to the official norms whereas private hospitals and clinics will be allowed to charge rates prescribed under the Central Government Health Scheme or according to the AIIMS norms.'
